Objective Thought
Conservatives are considered cold hearted and callous. They both mean about the same thing, but like those that appose conservatism, but I wanted to make the point. If conservatives were simply driven by calculation and had no feelings whatsoever, they would not get married or even have any relationships in friends, or loved ones. So conservatives do have feelings, we just don’t let our feelings run our lives. I often use the basic example of objective versus subjective thought. The simple explanations of these are that objective thought is based on facts, and subjective thought is how you feel about it. I often make decisions based on how I feel about something. The fact that I own a kilt store is because I am deeply attached to my Scottish Heritage and a love for the Scottish Culture. My objective side new that I could not be the next Bill Gates selling kilts. We also opened up our shop in Salem, Oregon, a town too small to support a Scottish Store. In making these decisions I realize they are based on how I fell. Many people these days are making decisions and forming opinion based on how they feel, ignoring the facts. I can site many examples, but one struck me as an outstanding look at what we are up against. The comedian Whoopi Goldberg was being interviewed as she is an outspoken critic of President Bush. The reporter asked her on a particular point that the facts did not support her assertion. Whoopi replied that that is how she feels and did not need to support her position with the facts. The dangerous part of this is that there are way too many people listening to Whoopi Goldberg and other entertainers and think that it is an informed opinion. After all they are famous, they must know more. The entertainer Toby Keith has a more realistic perspective, “if you’re forming your opinion from what an entertainer says, your in trouble”. Truer words could not be spoken. Now if you want information about the entertainment industry they are probably a great resource.
The latest extreme example is the Truthers. In spite of any real evidence in the direct opposition to any common sense, there is a portion of our society that believes that 9/11 was a government conspiracy.
